Artemis II commander Reid Wiseman has been named Caltech associate vice president and deputy director of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, NASA said. The emeritus astronaut and retired U.S. Navy captain begins the role on Nov. 30, 2026, according to NASA.
Caltech President Ray Jayawardhana and JPL Director Dave Gallagher announced the appointment Oct. 28 at Caltech's Brave New Space Age event, on the eve of Jayawardhana's inauguration as the institute's 10th president, Caltech said.
NASA said Wiseman will handle strategic leadership, stewardship and continuous improvement of laboratory operations, including close partnership with Caltech on institutional planning, management and compliance. He will serve as Center Management Authority for JPL mission execution and will be JPL's primary interface for national security programs, NASA said.
