The Federal Communications Commission on Oct. 29 adopted a notice of proposed rulemaking, FCC 26-71, according to an FCC news release republished by Pipeline Publishing. The NPRM seeks comment on making an additional 482 megahertz available for Supplemental Coverage from Space, the agency's framework for satellite links to ordinary phones that use terrestrial wireless bands, the release says.

The commission voted unanimously Thursday to seek input on the plan, and Carr and Commissioners Anna Gomez and Olivia Trusty approved the item and issued separate statements, according to Broadband Breakfast and Pipeline Publishing.

The FCC release, via Pipeline Publishing, says the proposal seeks comment on eliminating "burdensome" SCS requirements that have created the need for routine waivers, including the geographically independent area and lease mandates. It also seeks comment on replacing those mandates with adaptable geographic license areas and coexistence agreement rules, the same release says.
