Karman Space & Defense said on Oct. 26 that NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has selected it to design and develop the parachute deployment system for NASA's SkyFall mission to Mars.
The announcement came in a Karman release.
According to the release, the Huntington Beach, California, company will design and develop what it calls a mortar, the system that deploys the spacecraft's parachute. Karman described the mortar as a mission-critical part of SkyFall's entry and descent sequence.
