Flight 2
Hot staging worked and the ship reached space, but both stages were lost.
Partial success November 18, 2023
Goal
- Test hot staging: the ship lights its engines before it lets go of the booster.
- Reach space and splash the ship down near Hawaii.
What happened
All 33 booster engines ran the whole way up and hot staging worked.
The booster blew up during its turnaround burn.
The ship reached space, about 148 km up, but was lost about eight minutes into the flight after venting liquid oxygen started a fire.
