Cert-2
A booster nozzle fell off, but Vulcan still reached the right orbit.
Success October 4, 2024
Goal
- Reach the planned orbit on Vulcan’s second flight.
- Finish the two flights the Space Force needed to certify Vulcan.
What happened
About 37 seconds after liftoff, the nozzle fell off one of the two solid boosters.
Vulcan’s main engines made up for it and the flight ended in the planned orbit.
The cause was a manufacturing defect in an insulator.
